I can’t believe May is here already! I have truly been blessed with this class of children. They are so fun, funny and SMART! Wow! They have learned and grown so much. They are no longer those little kindergartners I met in August….they are first graders!
A few reminders:
1.Friday, May 15 will be the last day to test for sight word superstar.
2.Yearbooks went home Friday the 8th. Your children can bring these to school to have their friends sign. If you did not purchase one and want one they are $17 and in the office. There are only a few left.
3.Graduation is May 20th with the picnic following.
4.I am accepting orders for spring picture cds through Friday, May 15. They are $5 a piece.
5.Skate night is Tuesday the 12th!
6.Crazy hat or hair day is May 18th.

Wow! It is March already! Our spring is full of activities! The Q and U wedding will be on March 27th. Mrs. Shay and I welcome any help with set up and clean up. Thank you to all the parents who have sent in supplies!
We have devoted a week to every letter of the alphabet! We are starting to work on long vowels and consonant digraphs.
We will celebrate Okie Dokie Daddy Day on April 24th. Dads, I hope you will be able to take the morning off work. It is always a fun day!

I hope you enjoyed the snow days! Due to the snow days we will be continuing penny wars through the first week of February. Also, student council is selling candygrams for $1 in the lobby from 8:30-8:50 if your child would like to buy one for a friend at Westfall. Look in February 5th Thursday folder if you would like to buy one for your child but can’t be here in the morning.
I hope you have noticed the change in show and tell. Your child can bring anything that has our letter in it. They do need to know if the letter is in the beginning, middle or end. For example, if our letter is L, you child could bring a doll because it ends with Ll. I hope this will make show and tell more interesting both at home and at school.
We also get to have our Valentine party this month! Please send in supplies (including valentines) by the 12th so we can prepare. We currently have 16 students. Please do not address the valentines.
As always email me anytime. I check email at home and at school and it is the best way to get a fast reply.

Happy New Year! We are halfway to first grade! Wow! Our December service project went great! Our class collected over 30 food items for local mobile meals clients!
This month we are studying the continent of Asia and especially Chinese New Year. We are also more than halfway through the alphabet and are sounding out and reading all kinds of words and sentences!
Be looking for sight word poetry pages to come home periodically. Please keep these with your other homework books. These books and poems will be really great practice this summer.
Also, I have listed all of our sight words in the previous post just in case you lose a copy (or just ask me for an extra!)

Our class will have a service project in December. We are collecting 10 3/4 oz cans of soup. These will be given to local mobile meals recipients as part of a “blizzard bag” so they will be able to eat on days when drivers are unable to make deliveries due to the weather and road conditions. Your child can bring soup anytime during the month of December.

Sight words! Sight words! Sight words! Your child should now have 40 sight words! Our next sight word test (brown set) will be Monday the 24th! We will test over color words right before winter break. Most of the students already know the color words so I hope you will use this time to review the first 30 words at home. We do review sight words as a class but nothing can replace that one on one time with your child.
