We are almost halfway to first grade! We are reading all kinds of words and writing sentences!  Your kids are fantastic!

New sight words were sent home yesterday.  We will test over color words during the week of the 14th.  Most of the children already know all their color words.  I hope that during December and over winter break you and your child will review all 40 sight words daily and when we come back in January our students will KNOW these 40 words.  Sight words are soooo important to be successful in first grade.

We have started a new chapter in math on 3 dimensional objects,. We are learning about spheres, cones, cylinders, and cubes.

Our principal’s reading challenge will kickoff next week. Look for more info in the Thursday folder.

Our service project went very well. Our class collected over 50 cans of soup and received a very nice thank you from the mobile meals coordinator.

Our soup drive brought in over 80 cans of soup!  The mobile meals coordinator was so happy when I told her!  She said with budget cutbacks for the elderly she was very concerned about the blizzard bags and is grateful for our help.

You now have a blue set and an orange set of sight words.  We will begin testing over the orange words on Monday the 26th.  If you have lost your words scroll down and you will find them.  New words will go home soon.

Our Fall party is Friday. Please send in party money if you have not already.

This week kindergarten is doing its soup drive for mobile meals. The cans of soup will be given to clients for days when the weather/roads are bad and drivers are unable to deliver. I love this service project!  It has a direct effect on the community around us and is inexpensive to support.  Please send in soup by Friday so the “blizzard bags” can be delivered well before any bad weather.

October 30th is our character party! If your child chooses to dress up they will change into their costume at school. Do not send your child to school in their costume. Your child will need to able to change by themselves.  Parents can set up for our party at 2 and we will begin at 2:30.  Be looking for more info soon.

We have completed 3 weeks of kindergarten and this week we sounded out our first word….log!  Wow! We are moving right along and on our way to reading!

We will have show and tell for the letter Hh on Tuesday the 8th and Hat day on Friday the 11th.  No hats on the bus please!  I hope youare all enjoying the extra long weekend!  See you Tuesday!

As I write this we have completed 3 days of full day kindergarten!  Wow! it had been a great week!  I only wish the weather would let us have outside recess!  Hopefully tomorrow!

Our parent meeting will be on August 27th at 6 pm in our classroom.  I hope that every child can have at least one parent attend.  Please make other arrangements for your children so we can make the most of our time and speak freely.

Remember that every Friday we have our school wide assembly (Westfall Risin’).  You are always invited to attend.  We do leave our classroom at 8:50 so it is very important that you child be on time.  If s/he arrives after 8:50 then s/he will need to go directly to the gym.

Your children did so well at their graduation program!  I am so proud of them and I know you are too.  They are ready to move on to first grade! I will miss them.  Thank you for a wonderful year! Have a wonderful summer with your first grader.  Tell them to come visit me next year.
